To quickly and successfully deliver business value, industry knowledge is necessary and important.  In many IT roles, it is important to strike the balance between enough knowledge to not be delayed in traversing the learning curve, but not so much that we assume our own knowledge and experience is the “best practice.”  My customers know their business.  My role is to have enough knowledge to understand what they are saying and to ask “why” enough times to get people to step back and question current business processes and assumptions.
